I am a new-comer to net.rec.photo and apologise if my queries have already been dealt with here. I am currently looking to replace my 35mm SLR with a new one. The market sure has changed since I bought my last camera! (Back then `automatic' meant that you didn't have to close down the lens f-stop manually!) Anyhow, after reading some photo mags, the May issue of Consumer Report, talking to some friends and some camera salespeople, I have become interested in two particular cameras (in the same price range). I have some questions about the usefulness of some features (gimmicks?). Has anyone out there had any specific experience with either the Olympus OM-2s and/or the Pentax SUPER PROGRAM (or PROGRAM PLUS)? Some general concerns: - quality of equipment (body and lens) - ease and expense of service (this is what annoys me about my current camera) - availability and cost of accesories (flashes, lenses (with KA mount for Pentax)) - possiblility to use camera with dead batteries (a `mechanical' mode) - cloth vs metal shutter (I know about x-sync differences) The specific cameras: - usefulness of shutter AND aperture priority on one camera - convenience of both f-stop and shutter speed in viewfinder - centre-weighted AND spot metering - off-the-film metering And anything else you can think of. Please respond by mail ('cuz these are pretty specific questions) unless you think your response is of general interest. Many thanks, Detlef Dransch
