[This posting is a followup to the poster who made the statement "in any quantity, good photofinishing of slide prints are less expensive than prints from negatives". Unfortunately, the message contained something that causes our Rand Editor to fail, so I couldn't followup to the message itself.] While it may be true that commercial prints from slides are less expensive than commercial prints from negatives, in my experience this is by no means true if you make your own prints (which gives the best print quality of all). The cost of color paper for prints from negatives is about the same as equivalent black and white paper; typically around 35 cents per sheet, regardless of surface (for Ektacolor). The cost of reversal paper is typically around 60 cents for "pearl" or $1.20 for glossy (for Cibachrome). This is a considerable difference in price! Finally, I don't think it makes much sense to claim that most "professionals" use reversal film, unless you consider the type of professionals involved, since photographs made for printing in magazines or newspapers are usually done on reversal film to simplify making the color printing plates. -- Shyy-Anzr: J.
