[net.rec.photo] Lens modification?

chip@vaxwaller.UUCP (Chip Kozy) (03/08/86)

I've got an older 135mm short telephoto lens, and I want to use
it on my Nikon. Problem: the thing is a screw mount, so won't fit the
Nikon body. I've been to a few stores in the area, and all I've gotten
so far is "Well, we don't have an adapter, but we've got this really
great lens on sale...". The lens is relatively good (f 2.8), and I like
the results I got with the old camera it came off of (the old one went
belly up), and I'd like to use this thing. Does anybody know if there
really is or is not an adapter made to handle it, or if it would be worth
while to take it in to have it changed around to a Nikon mount, or even if
that's wise?

It's probably a better idea to buy a new lens. An older lens is almost
definitely not as good as a newer one. There are plenty of fine 135mm
f/2.8 lenses out there for a decent price. Unless the lens has
interchangable mounts, it's gonna cost you an arm and a leg to get a
Nikon mount on it (if it's even possible -- you didn't say what kind of
lens it was). There are few places that will even do it. Marty
Forscher would do it, but I don't think an old 135 would be worth
paying for his bench time ...
