[net.rec.photo] Nikon FE2.

I have had a Nikon FE2 for about 2 years, and have nothing but good things
to say about it. The only time I felt that something could have been added
to this camera was when I was taking some pictures before nightfall. I
wanted to shoot in the manual mode, but could not see the meter readings
because of the darkness. I sent up a prayer, switched to automatic and
took the picture. I was very pleased with what the meter had done ( Modern
Photography claims that metering is accurate down to the 8 sec available ).

I could have just locked the meter reading in, using the exposure lock
so thoughtfully provided, and used my (nonexistent) torch to illuminate
the display.

I just wished, though, that I could see the viewfinder at all times.
Something similar to the light button found on so many digital watches
perhaps ? A lcd display would not be visible in darkness and a led
display would bleed the battery. Besides, there is something comforting
(for me) in the feeling that one can see a continuous range of values
in the needle display rather than the discrete values shown by digital
displays.

I hasten to add that only the "pros" seem to think that the FE2 is "flaky"
and by no means am I a "pro". If anybody knows what the FE2's problems
are, I would like to know about them also, just to be aware of them.

So many people wrote regarding a question I raised about zooming
during exposure. My thanks to all of you for all the tips and answers.

I also have had trouble reading the display while taking dance
pictures with an FE2 when the stage is too dark.
But apart from that I don't have other serious complaints so
I would like to know what other people think are the
serious drawbacks of this machine.
