[net.rec.photo] New Canon T-90 First Look

I got a chance to play with the new Canon T-90 this
weekend. For you Canon fans, this is the next generation
of their A-1 body, with yet more functions and capabilities.

	No, it's not autofocus.

I have been using my A-1 since it was introduced and like it
a lot! So this makes me a biased observer...

	Impressions:

		1) Very nice to hold in the hand!

		2) The exposure reading does not update as you change
your view - you have to release the shutter button
and press down again - minor irritant...

		3) I thought it was easier to view the image than the
		   A-1.

		4) Built-in motor drive is smooth & quiet - much nicer
than the add-on drive for the A-1.

Clearly I have not had more than a couple of minutes with it
yet, but I already suspect that I'll buy one.

Has anyone heard about prices yet? The dealer wanted $450 for
the body, but he's always high...

	Thanks in advance.

Are you sure? On my T-70 I can enable this by using the "AE Lock"
mode switch, but normally it will update the exposure constantly.

How does this compare to his price on the T-70 (to give me a
benchmark)? The local dealers here have no info on the T-90 so far.

How does the metering work in the full-manual mode? Doees it have a
simulated match-needle (from the ads it looks like it _could_, using
the scale on the right of the viewfinder). How powerful is the new
flash (Speeedlite 300T)?

The T-90 looks like a "semi-professional" camera, what with a built-in
motor drive (does it have two speeds?) and interchangeable focusing
screens, but I don't expect it'll ever replace the F-1.
