I just saw the full page ad DEC put in this weeks issue of ComputerWorld
(10 May '82: p. 25). It looks beautiful...the keyboard is styled like
the IBM PC, but more intelligently (e.g. dividers between keypads(no real
detail, though)). There is \NO/ information on it sans this blurb:
You want to find out about Digital's
		new personal computers? Call our
		special toll-free information hot-line.
		800-DIGITAL (800-344-4825).
I would guess the secracy was to insure no leakage before the formal
announcement. I called the number this evening and got a recording
informing that they are open for questions 8:30am-8:30pm EST, and to
call back then, or leave a msg with name and phone number, and a time
for them to contact you (wow...). Any information out there. I will
try to call the tomorrow, and get a literature packet; but it would be
great if someone could save me the trouble. Someone, must have the facts
about them...

I'm at DECUS now. Heres the scoop on the DEC PC:

There are three models: The Rainbow 100, the DECMATE 2 and the Professional
300. The Rainbow has Z80 and 8088 processors and will run either CP/M 80
or CP/M 86 software and automatically recognize the "flavor" of the
program being run and use the appropriate CPU. Video is full VT102
compatible including 132 cols. System comes with 64KB RAM and is expandable
to 256KB. Disk storage is 400KB per floppy (5MB Winchester optional).
Also optional is bit map graphics (800x240 pixels) and color. The keyboard
is totally new and is fantastic. The CRT tilts to desired viewing angle.
Cost is about $3250 with 64K and 2 floppies. I think it's a winner!

The DECMATE 2 is a PDP-8 based product in the same packaging that runs
DEC's office software. You can get a Z80 card for it to run CP/M.

The Professional 300 is LSI-11/23 based and runs a subset of 11M. Once
again the packaging is identical.

Systems will be available in the fall thru DEC and Computerland. I
think DEC has really put the pressure on IBM with this one.
