Apologies to everybody who is getting this twice; I am putting it on
both lists per W8SDZ's request. I have also covered most of this
material in an earlier message, but the topic seems to have come up
again.
I guess my answer to all of this is to stay away from the Videx board.
I use the BIT3 Full-View 80, CPM, and Mince. Mince initializes the
board in proper mode except for the control characters; this latter
problem is solved by going into CONFIGIO and getting ctl-b and ctl-k
back again, and typing ctl-shift-N >>once<< at the beginning of a
session. The board is then locked into keyboard transparent mode. One
of thse days I'll go back into CONFIGIO and use some unused (by Mince)
ctl-somethings to get back the missing special characters.
I might add that with late model Apples the BIT3 shift detect mod is a
simple matter of clipping (not soldering) a wire onto one of the board
leads and plugging the other end into the third button input in
the game socket. I use a cable extender for my (well, really, my
kids') joystick, and I just split off the relevant wire and soldered it
to the clip lead, which keeps everything nice and unpluggable.

I know where I can get a moby number of very nice ascii keyboards with numeric keyboards
for $35 each. They're the nicest ones I've seen in a long time. They've got
grey keytops. They are honeywell-microswitch or a honeywell-japanese effort. Some are
used, but all appear to be in good condition. If there is an interest I'll route them.
I think about 100 are available.
