Thought there might be some general interest in the following approximation for pi which always surprises me seems not to be widely known and certainly not widely taught, considering it has mnemonic properties and gives pi correct to (approx) 2.7*10**-7 :- 355/113 (easily remembered - 113355 split down the middle) To get a better approximation you have to go to 8 digit numbers! Please dont flame if you learned this at kindergarten! Ray Dunn. Fools step in.........

I learned that in first grade.

What I and many others used as a good approximation for pi was the mark near the middle of my K+E slide rule (alas, broken now, and unreplaceable). This made pi a handy constant. The number of seconds in a year, for example, is roughly pi*10^7. "A spaceman's slipstick is as much a part of his uniform as his blaster..."

We may have all learnt the other ones in kindergerten, but have you seen : sqrt(sqrt(2143/22)). Oh, you have , well ... chris:wacsvax
