hi there, 2.9 gurus! i gots a problem. i have a pdp 11/70 running 2.9 with a TE-16 tape drive. dump and tar work fine, in 800 bpi mode only. i am supposedly using the right drive (ht) and according to mt(4), if i use /dev/rmt1 or /dev/mt1, then i should operate in 1600 bpi. that ain't so, though. it refuses to shift gears. i have called dec and mcdonnell douglas repair folks out to run diagnostics on it and they say that it passes with flying colors. the 'phase encoded' light comes on just fine for diags, but with dump/tar, it goes out. is there a fix or something for 'ht'. please help. i'm running out of time and tapes. thanks for your time. rick barrett systems manager convex!smu!rab
