DEPARTMENT CHAIR
Computer and Information Science Department
University of Massachusetts/Amherst
The Computer and Information Science Department of the University
of Massachusetts, Amherst, seeks a senior computer scientist to serve
as Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the department.
Candidates should have a record of distinguished research,
administrative experience, and a desire to be a leader of a growing,
research-oriented computer science department.
Over the past five years, our department has undergone major
expansion, resulting in the development of an outstanding research
environment and high quality graduate and undergraduate programs. We
currently have 23 faculty, 15 research computer scientists, and 200
graduate students, with the expectation that we will grow
significantly over the next five years. We have developed
internationally recognized programs in Artificial Intelligence and
Brain Theory, Software Development, and Distributed Computing. To
support our research, we have a 25 node network of VAXs, SUNs, LISP
machines, and Graphics Workstations. We feel that our department's
strength and cooperative research environment, combined with the
superb quality of life available in the Amherst community, make this a
very attractive opportunity.
The starting date for appointment is flexible, but September 1985
or before is most desired.
