From: James Dugal <DugalJP%usl.csnet@csnet-relay.arpa> The University of Southwestern Louisiana Proudly Announces the Inauguration of the INTERNATIONAL MICROPROGRAMMING REPOSITORY On October 29, 1984, ceremonies will be held celebrating the inauguration of the International Microprogramming Repository to be housed in the Dupre Library at the University of Southwestern Louisiana located in Lafayette, Louisiana. The repository will serve as an important archive for all material relating to microprogramming and firmware engineering and will be accessible to all researchers in these topical areas. The University is proud to assist in furthering our cumulative research efforts in this way and encourages researchers to come and utilize these materials and to visit the Computer Science department whenever in Lafayette. The main events of the day will be talks being given by Professor Maurice V. Wilkes and Professor Michael J. Flynn. Professor Wilkes' talk, entitled "Microprogramming; its origins and development," will be delivered at 11:00 A.M. and Professor Flynn's talk entitled "Basic Considerations in Computer Architecture" will be delivered at 3:00 P.M. Both addresses will be presented in Room 147 of Griffin Hall. These talks are to be videotaped and the tapes will reside in the repository. Further, visitor tours of the repository will be conducted at 9:00 A.M. and at 1:00 P.M. As the Seventeenth Annual Workshop on Microprogramming commences the following day in New Orleans, this occasion will also provide an excellent opportunity to combine attendance at the inaugural ceremonies with attendance at MICRO17. The opportunity to experience the beauty, warmth, and hospitality of the Acadiana region of Louisiana is afforded, as well.
