The opening is at the Assistant Professor level; the initial appointment will be for a term of three years, starting in the fall of 1985. There are currently two full-time faculty in computer studies and six in cognitive science. A VAX 11/750 running VAX/VMS and many microcomputers are dedicated to academic use. A local area network links terminal clusters and personal computers with academic, library and administrative computer systems. Founded in 1970, the College is allied with Amherst, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts in a unique academic consortium. The setting provides a flexible small-college teaching atmosphere, coupled with the stimulus of nearby graduate research departments in computer science and computer engineering. Candidates should forward resumes, a statement of their teaching and research interests, and three letters of reference to: Richard Muller, Chair, Computer Science Search Committee, Hampshire College, Amherst MA 01002.
