Interested in systems programming, microcomputing, or data
communications? The University of Michigan Computing Center has
the following positions open for people with a computing background
who are interested in working in these areas:
SYSTEMS RESEARCH PROGRAMMERS at various levels in the following
three groups:
Systems Group - to install and maintain existing system programs
and subroutines, and design and implement new system programs
and subroutines (reference #A094-084M-P);
Microcomputer Support Group - to design, develop, maintain, and
document microcomputer software to allow personal computers to
function as workstations to the University's campus network UMnet
(reference #A104-065M-P);
UMnet Computer Network - to work with the UMnet Technical
Staff to design and implement network software, and participate
in the daily operation of UMnet, a rapidly expanding data
communications network on the University of Michigan campus
reference #A124-010M-P).
Qualifications include a B.S. in Computer Science/Engineering and
additional experience relevant to each area, plus familiarity with
the following systems: MTS (Michigan Terminal System) for the
Systems Group and UMnet; UNIX (tm) for the Systems Group; MS-DOS
and Apple Macintosh for the Microcomputer Support Group.
COMPUTER SYSTEMS CONSULTANT in the Microcomputer Support Group -
to offer telephone and walk-in consultation and teach non-credit
courses in order to assist users in the use and selection of
microcomputer systems. Qualifications include a B.S. with
computer-related work plus experience using personal computers and
in presenting oral and written technical communications.

ENGINEER for the UMnet Computer Network - to coordinate and assist
with the fabrication of communications systems, test and debug
such systems, and coordinate network operations. Qualifications
include a B.S. in electrical or computer engineering plus related
knowledge and experience. Familiarity with MTS (Michigan Terminal
