From: Keith Lantz <lantz@Gregorio>

N.B. Contrary to previous calls for papers: (1) the submission deadline
is June 1, 1985; (2) accepted papers will not be limited to five
camera-ready papers.

                           REVISED CALL FOR PAPERS
1st International Conference on Computer Workstations

                          San Jose Convention Center
                                 San Jose, CA
                             November 11-14, 1985

                      Sponsored by IEEE Computer Society

The conference theme is advanced computer workstations of all kinds, the
software environment in which they run, hardware and software technology
associated with workstations, and the applications that are run on
workstations. The environment is assumed to be a cooperative one with many
workstations, servers and possibly mainframe computers providing additional
services. Included therefore are workstation architecture, especially
multi-processor and parallel architectures, distributed systems involving
file, database, print and audio servers, distributed systems involving shared
resources, communications networks, LANs and PBX systems (if used for both
data and audio), applicability of circuit switching versus packet switching,
distributed operating systems, user interfaces (e.g. "messy desk" model), and
interesting (advanced) applications. Applications might exploit audio/image
techniques, AI/Expert systems, and CAD/CAM/CAE/CASE. Interesting distributed
applications that need intelligent workstations are especially welcome.

Other topics include special processors (LISP machines), geometry engines,
image processing workstation hardware, silicon compilers, custom VLSI systems
or applicability of custom VLSI to specialized workstation architecture, and
security issues. Specifically excluded are time-shared systems, single
machine programs normally run on a central host machine, and peripheral
equipment normally associated with a mainframe machine.

Send four copies of a paper by June 1, 1985, to:

The length of individual papers, and the overall size of the proceedings, will
be determined solely by the quality and number of papers accepted.
