The Mellon College of Science at Carnegie-Mellon University is
seeking a Director of Educational Computing to direct the 
Freshman Science Seminar, updating and teaching the computer
literacy component of that program; manage the computer laboratory;
assist in the development of educational software; and serve on the
staffs of several computer advisory committees.

Candidates should have an MS in Computer Science or the equivalent, a BS
with emphasis in math chemistry, physics or biology, teaching experience,
profeciency in high level languages, and applications design experience.

The Electrical Engineering Computer Facility has a job opening for a
junior Unix systems programmer. All interested parties should contact

Duties:	

Responsible to/reports to senior programming staff within EE-CF.  Duties
include developing, installing, and maintaining new software facilities
on Vaxes running 4.2bsd Unix.  Assists in administering user accounts,
answering user questions and performing operations functions.

Qualifications:

1 to 2 years experience with the UNIX(tm) operating system and the C
programming language.  Knowledge of ethernet-based LANs and networking
protocols is helpful.  Experience with TOPS-20 or VMS operating systems
desirable.  Understanding of hardware debugging techniques helpful.
Good communications/writing skills.

The Computer and Information Science Department invites applicants for a
Systems Programmer position.  Applicants must have earned a Bachelor's degree
in Computer Science or a related field, know several high level programming
languages and have experience with Unix and/or VAX/VMS.  Applicants must be
self-motivated, independent and interested in being part of a Computer
Science research effort.

The department has a network of several VAX-11/785's, VAX-11/750's and
Symbolics Lisp Machines as well as special purpose hardware.  There are three
other Systems Programmers working in the department.
