From: Paul Hudak <Hudak@YALE.ARPA> Systems Programming Opportunities at Yale ----------------------------------------- The Yale Department of Computer Science is looking for several experienced systems programmers to join our laboratory staff. The laboratory supports active research programs in Artificial Intelligence, Numerical Computation, Theory of Computation, and Programming Languages and Systems, including several involving large-scale parallel computing. The laboratory personnel regularly interact with our researchers in solving systems-related problems in a stimulating research environment. We are looking for individuals with exceptional programming skills who have a desire to learn and to apply their expertise in new ways. The positions generally entail working with our research faculty and graduate students in maintaining a quality computing facility conducive to our research and educational needs. Responsibilities include resource planning, software maintenance, and programming tasks of varying complexity. Experience with Unix 4.2 BSD, Vax VMS, or Apollo Aegis is desirable but not essential. Our Computer Science Laboratory has a variety of state-of-the-art computing equipment, including two large networks of Apollos (about 120 nodes total), about ten Vaxes (some running Unix 4.2 BSD, others VMS), a FPS-164 floating-point vector processor, a DEC Venus mainframe ("SuperVax" 8600), a network of 20 MicroVax I's (to be upgraded shortly to MicroVax II's), an Intel 128-node hypercube multiprocessor, and a DEC-2060. All of these systems are interconnected via Ethernet, and we have gateways to ARPANET, UUCP, and BITNET.
