NAVY CENTER FOR APPLIED RESEARCH IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
--FULL TIME POSITIONS--
The Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial
Intelligence (NCARAI) is looking for highly motivated
candidates at all educational levels to engage in
challenging research and development programs in an
excellent research environment. NCARAI is the AI
application arm of the U.S. Navy, and is quickly becoming a
significant factor in the AI research community. It offers
qualified individuals an excellent opportunity to work with
outstanding scientists on basic research problems as well as
to develop programs of great importance to the national
security. NCARAI is located in one of the leading research
laboratories in the country, the Naval Research Laboratory
in Washington, DC, and offers:

Our campus-like facilities house equipment such as VAX
11/780's and 750's, Xerox Dolphins, LMI LAMBDAs, a Symbolics
Lisp machine, and Sun workstations, as well as a Cray. We
enjoy a relaxed professional atmosphere including bimonthly
seminars featuring world-class AI researchers. We publish
results in both national and international AI journals and
take pride in developing AI techniques for the solution of
Navy problems.
Current research topics at the Navy Center for Applied
Research in Artificial Intelligence include:
* Expert Systems
- Battlefield Management
- Troubleshooting Electronic Equipment
- Target Classification
- Operational Planning
* Natural language processing
- Message Understanding and Automation
* Distributed Problem Solving
- Multisensor Information Integration
- Adaptive Control
Qualified individuals must have demonstrated an ability to
conduct research in AI and to implement large AI systems.
One or two year appointments are also available for Visiting
Scientists who meet either of these criteria.
