From: Keith Lantz <lantz@Gregorio> SUNDEC, a joint effort in distributed computing between Stanford University and Digital Equipment Corporation, is seeking a Systems Programmer III/IV to work in the areas of user interface and graphics system design. Much of this work will be done in the context of the V-System, a distributed operating system designed for high-performance personal workstations. The V-System currently runs on Sun workstations and is being ported to the MicroVax. Its user interface includes a state-of-the-art window / graphics system that supports structured display files. The programmer would be responsible for continued development and maintenance of these facilities. Possible tasks include making the facilities upward-compatible with GKS, providing 3-D support, porting them to run under other operating systems (such as Ultrix-32m), and integrating them into a complete "user interface management system". The job also will provide opportunities to develop novel distributed applications and to gain knowledge and experience with distributed systems. The programmer will work closely with students, faculty, and staff of the Computer Science Department's Distributed Systems Group. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, or equivalent in training and experience. Applicant should be motivated to learn, capable of responsible independent work, and enthused about working in a team with large amounts of existing software. Experience with graphics and user interfaces, including the design and implementation of related software, is preferred. Experience with distributed systems, C, and UNIX would be valuable but may be acquired on the job. Contact: Dr. Omur Tasar (an employee of Digital Equipment Corp.)
