From: asp@mit-athena.ARPA MIT Project Athena, a five-year, $70-million effort to integrate computers into the MIT curriculum, seeks a technical writer and a systems programmer. TECHNICAL WRITER -- should be familiar with MS-DOS on IBM PC equipment. Duties: * Research and write brief introductory documentation on DOS, its languages, and utility packages. * Write conversion guides between DOS and Unix. * Oversee distribution of standard DOS documentation. Qualifications: * At least one year of professional technical writing experience. * Knowledge of MS-DOS and at least one programming language from among C, Fortran, Pascal, or Lisp. * Experience with Unix and/or and applications area such as graphics preferred. SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER Project Athena seeks a systems programmer to be part of the System Development Group. Will assist in the development of software for large-scale deployment in support of education, including network service infra-structure, graphics interfaces, and real-time systems. Will develop, design, implement, and document new sybsystems, as well as modifications to vendor supplied software, such as UNIX and language compilers, as required for the Athena environment. Special qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Three to five years of professional experience in systems programming or combined experience in systems programming with related programming activities is required. Individuals should have experience with the UNIX operating system and the C language. Experience with the Lisp language is also helpful. Professional experience should include work in at least one of the following areas: local area networks, user interfaces, operating systems, or compilers. Good communications skills and ability to work in a team are important.
