Position Title: Applications Consultant (2 positions)-- Administrative
Staff

Position Description and Special Qualifications:

	Project Athena seeks candidates for the position of
Applications Consultant.  This person will assist in the development
of educational software which achieves the dual purpose of curriculum
enrichment and technical coherence.  This person will work closely
with MIT faculty members and students and with the DEC/IBM staff
members assigned to Project Athena.

	Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent
combinations of education and experience (3-5 years) in applications
development with particular emphasis on graphics and at least two of
the following languages:  C, Lisp, Fortran, and Pascal.

Position Title:  Applications Programmer (6 positions)

Position Description and Special Qualifications:

Applications programmer to assist MIT faculty members working on
educational software design and implementation; implement applications
programs, standards, and libraries; and maintain contact between
faculty and other Athena staff.  Will research appropriate software
and hardware avenues to meet the needs of the faculty and will provide
assistance in identifying and resolving technical problems users may
have.  Will provide conceptual, and technical, and standards
information to users and communicate user needs applications packages
obtained from vendors or other computing facilities.  Will attend
conferences, seminars and classes to develop and maintain knowledge of
computer applications software, standards in the areas of graphics,
user interfacing, educational uses of computers and related areas, and
to maintain contact with personnel in comparable or related
positions.

Requires a person with good oral and written communication skills and
1 year or more full-time experience with at least two of the
following:  UNIX (4.2 bsd preferred), C, Fortran-88, Lisp, Interactive
computer graphics in a scientific environment.  Bachelor's degree or
equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Preference given to applicants with additional experience outside the
computer sciences.  NON-SMOKING OFFICE.
