The Supercomputer Project at Carnegie-Mellon University, Computer Science
Department, is seeking programming professionals to join a research team,
which is building high-performance prototype machines based on some of the
advanced architecture concepts.  One position as a systems programmer
is IMMEDIATELY available.

The salary depends on the experience and qualification of the person, but it
roughly is in the range of $26K - $35K.

The working environment is challenging, informal and friendly.  In addition,
being one of the centers in computer science research, CMU offers its
employees plenty of opportunities in education and in professional growth.

Typical examples of software to be developed include system debuggers and
simulators under UNIX, run-time routines for supporting real-time tasks, and
special-purpose compilers.  It is often useful if the person can do
extensive microprogramming as well.

                      HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

The Department of Civil Engineering at Carnegie-Mellon University is
seeking applicants for the position of Professor and Head of the
Department. Candidates must have a distinguished record of research and
scholarly achievement compatible with one or more areas of
concentrations of the Department. The primary concentration areas are:
engineering planning and management; environmental engineering;
mechanics, structural and geotechnical engineering; and computer-aided
engineering  including robotics. The Department is comprised of 18
faculty members, several of whom hold joint appointments, 9 research
associates, 63 full-time graduate students, and approximately 90
undergraduates. The Department has a vigorous externally funded
research program. The Head is expected to be dedicated to excellence
and to provide leadership to maintain and evolve programs in teaching
and research.
