		  POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT THE
		SOFTWARE ENGINEERING INSTITUTE

The Software Engineering Institute is a Federally Funded Research and
Development Center operated by Carnegie-Mellon University under contract to
the U.S. Air Force Systems Command. Our mission is to provide able
professionals with effective technology to rapidly improve the quality of
large scale software systems; to accelerate the transition of modern
software engineering techniques and methods into practice; and to establish
standards of excellence for software engineering practice.

To address its mission, the SEI has a broad goal: Transition software
engineering technology to significantly improve the ability to produce and
support predictably high quality systems. Six program areas describe our
major thrusts; projects are underway under each of these areas:

	* Technology Identification and Assessment
	* Understanding the Nature of the Technology Transition Process
	* Education
	* Reusability and Automation
	* System Design, Construction, and Integration
	* Reasoning about Software Engineering Processes

The SEI is structured to interface with the DoD and service organizations,
with the defense industry, and with the academic and research communities.
Technical activities are carried out through three divisions:

The Basic Research and Education Division focuses on interaction with the
academic and research communities and is responsible for research in
software technology as well as development of Software Engineering
curricula.

The Project Engineering Division identifies, assesses, modifies, implements,
and evaluates emerging software technology.

The Technology Transition and Training Division focuses on interaction with
the DoD and Industry and is responsible for transition of software
technology.

The Software Engineering Institute is seeking computer scientists, software
engineers, and other professionals who understand the problems surrounding
large scale software development and support projects, to conduct basic
research, and to move the state-of-the practice closer to the state-of-the
art.
