DIRECTOR OF COMPUTER RESEARCH FACILITIES POSITION


Columbia University's Department of Computer Science is looking for a
new Director of Computer Research Facilities.  The Director manages a
staff responsible for the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and
operation of hardware and software supporting the Department's
research program; analyzes, recommends, and negotiates major equipment
purchases; assists in preparing research proposals; makes
recommendations regarding construction and modification of laboratory
space; participates in meetings of the faculty; and performs other
related duties.

The Department is housed in the recently constructed Computer Science
Building.  Facilities currently include a DEC 2060, an IBM 4381 with
workstations, a network of VAX-11/750s, an AT&T 3B20S with twenty-two
3B2/300s, HP and Sun workstations, Intel and Valid development
systems, VLSI design systems, and high-resolution fast raster
graphics.

The position requires an extensive background in systems programming
with at least 5-7 years of experience with computer systems at the
management level.
