From: jt <jt%eusip@UCL-CS.ARPA> A major five year Alvey-funded research and development project in automatic speech recognition started at Edinburgh in October 1984. The project, which is carried out by the Departments of Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering and Linguistics, is applying Artificial Intelligence techniques in the design and implementation of a machine-assisted speech transcription system. Computin resources include a VAX 11/750 running 4.2 BSD Unix (TM Bell Labs), a Masscomp 500 and a network of Xerox 1108/1109s running Interlisp-D. The eventual target system is a parallel reduction machine now under development in a related Alvey project. We are now seeking staff with commercial experience or a postgraduate academic background to add to our team for this project. If you are interested in moving into the exciting field of Artificial Intelligence and Speech, this is a unique opportunity to be associated with the largest and most prestigious Artificial Intelligence group in Europe, and to participate in a challenging project of major significance. We invite applications for the following new research posts: Morphologist (Computational Linguistics) Refs:CSTR/1 Lexicon Builder (Computational Linguistics) CSTR/2 Programmer/Corpus Linguist (Syntax/Semantics) CSTR/3 Knowledge Engineer (Expert Systems) CSTR/4 Electronics Engineer (Signal Processing) CSTR/5 Applied Mathematician (Systems Integration) CSTR/6 Parallel Architecture Strategist (Systems Integration) CSTR/7 Starting salaries from 8,920 to 14,925 (pounds) per annum. Experience in the areas of Expert Systems or Computational Linguistics an advantage, but not essential provided you are ready and willing to acquire new skills.
