I just ran a test of uurec on sri-unix using the following single message as input. It took 1 user second, 15.7 system seconds, and 1 minute 28 seconds of real time to complete. Does anyone know why on earth uurec is so slow? We get 150 to 200 of these messages a day and they are crushing our system load-wise, raising the load to 10 and 11 on a 2.8BSD v7 11/70 for the entire period when the news is being processed (several hours). I would go snooping through all the code but figure someone out there must have an idea. Is uurec this slow on your system? We transmit news to hplabs and fortune.
