Recently, I tired of continually updating my .newsrc file options line (as well as the various other selection methods available). I prefer to select the newsgroups I want to read and not get bombarded with every new newsgroup that comes along. So, I set up the following: In the shell news1: read1 read2 . . . read7 where read[1-7] is a shell of the form: readnews -n list of newsgroups (readnews is the local command to read news) My question is: Sometimes, my shell news1 will quit after only part of the list of other shells have been executed. I have noticed this after a "Last article" prompt at the end of one of my newsgroup lists. Readnews appears to be generating a break or end-of-file sequence and bombing me back out to system control level. (To stop a bit of mail -- I put the readnews commands into different shells based on the subject/purpose of the newsgroups. This way, if time is short, I can simply type 'read3' to read the news for those groups.) I have noticed that net.misc seems to be a major culprit. Is this a BUG or a FEATURE?????????? Please mail to me if I'm making an error or post to the net if your comments are of sufficient scope and interest. Thanks in advance Dave Johnson BTL - Piscataway
