[net.news.b] Readnews - command does not always work

jhh (10/21/82)

On the current version of readnews (2.9), the `-' operator
does not always work. The problem occurs when an article
is posted to two newsgroups, and you go back to the article.
There is no effect, i.e. the header of the next article is reprinted.

I'm not sure, but I also think if the next article has two
newsgroups and you go back with - that you never see the
next article. This may only happen when the two articles
are in different newsgroups, as I only noticed the problem once.

The reason that I noticed this is that I can never remember
whether to use r- or -r, so I type `-'<return>`r'<return>.

I have noticed the problem of '-' not working many times, though I've
never bothered to work out the exact context. It's just infrequent enough
(and confusing enough) to be annoying without really prompting me to do
anything about it.

I find it extremely annoying that readnews and Mail have such different
interfaces. I am forever R'ing netnews or r'ing netnews or r-'ing
Mail. I don't even KNOW when I am sending notes to the wrong people.
It's disgusting. Don't tell me to use notesfiles. Gimme an interface
to netnews that gives me the convenience of the notesfile interface but
uses the same back-end as netnews. Having two totally different filing
systems is stupid. (Please, don't send me an emacs-macro, I want code
which I have a chance of being able to read, that is as portable as the
rest of netnews.)
