Unless I've made a terribly stupid mistake in my program, the answer is 17. Why 17, you ask? It's obvious: 17 is the largest integer less than 18 :-). I can see now why you were puzzled. Anybody know why it's 17? Maybe HHGTTG was wrong. The answer to life, the universe, and everything should clearly be 17 instead of 42. Ed Sheppard Bell Communications Research
