Yesterday qubix received a control message from alice!news cancelling the newsgroup fa.info-cpm. After checking the latest list of active newsgroups from alice!alb, which arrived about the same time as the rmgroup message, I decided that the cancellation was in error so I did an inews -C to re-create it. Now I have 2 questions. 1) Why am I being inundated with messages from various news systems ranging from v2.6 to v2.10 complaining about a misunderstood control message or some such thing. 2) I saw no discussion about a pending cancellation and the latest active newsgroup list says that fa.info-cpm is still active. If an established group is to be cancelled there should be some warning. A suitable alternative would be to include in the rmgroup message some text identifying the sender of the message and the reason for the cancellation. -- Mark ...{decvax,ucbvax}!decwrl!qubix!msc ...{ittvax,amd70}!qubix!msc decwrl!qubix!msc@Berkeley.ARPA

The reason fa.info-cpm is on the latest list is because I posted it too early for it to be off. fa.info-cpm is DEAD. It is (and has been, for a few weeks now) replaced by net.micro.cpm -- the next newsgroup list will show this.
