[net.news.b] news 2.10, advantage of U-flag

teus@mcvax.UUCP (07/29/83)

If you use the U-flag in the system line in "sys" you are using "uux -c ...",
and not spooling the article data. That is known already.

If the article is cancelled later the article file is removed,
but if the command is not yet forwarded you will be plagued with the
message ".../usr/spool/news/.../xxxx ... can't open".
So be aware that there is not a really problem.
The next hop will have the execute file of uucp till it is cleaned
with uuclean some day...

The advantage of using the U-flag is that cancelled articles are gone of the
net after two hops. (And of course some disk space).
I have no solution to inform uucp about the possible garbage.

Possible bug:
The original article also will stop very soon to be sent. The control message
will be forwarded over net. Then the article comes in via some other way.
The control message coming after it is not excepted and thrown away.
This is the reincarnation of the article?
