[net.news.b] Posting bug

jeff@heurikon.UUCP (02/17/84)

Sometimes when I post an article it never makes
it to uucp. Postnews runs normally, the article
is assigned a number, it is stashed in news/spool
properly, the history file is okay and the log file
indicates that the article was sent to our neighbor.
But there is no sign of it at the uucico end of things.
No error messages either.

Does anyone know what causes this behavior? (Or maybe
inews disposes of articles it doesn't think are worth
the trouble.)
		Thanks,

When I first installed news on our system I had a similar
problem. What turned out to be the problem was that the
makefile assumed the default uux was being used (i.e. one
with a -z flag). Well, our uux didn't know about -z and so
aborted, not sending the article. The fix was to install
the code for the -z flag as distributed with the news stuff.
