We are having a problem at this site that a user will get the message 'There is new news' when they issue a 'checknews y', but when they attempt to read their news, they are informed that there is no news. Is there a fix for this problem? I have not seen it discussed, but then we have not been on the net for very long. Any helpful hints would be appreciated. I had a similar problem with a user. It turn out to be that his .newsrc file had lines ending in just '!'. Once they were changed to end with '! 1' checknews worked fine. Darryl Baker ihnp4!nwuxd!dbaker

If you use 'checknews -yvv' checknews will attempt to tell you why it thinks there is new news. In some cases this will help you isolate the problem which most of the time is in the .newsrc file. -- Darrell McIntosh AT&T Information Systems Laboratories, Denver (303) 538-1376, {ihnp4, houxe, stcvax!ihnp4}!drutx!darrell
