[net.news.b] Compression and "mkbatch" -- A question

brown@noao.UUCP (07/13/84)

Now that Spencer Thomas has posted a general compression utility,
has anyone integrated file compression into the "mkbatch" scheme
of Erik Fair?

Now, I don't know how someone at `noao' got my mkbatch program, because
I have explicitly sent it to sites in the SF Bay Area only, but if you
really have it, all you need to do is fix the shell script that came
with it. Recall that mkbatch puts out a set of filenames to stdout of the
files that contain the batched news, and you can uux/mail/compress/destroy
or whatever else with them once you have the names. So, insofar as I can
see, there is no reason to hack any knowledge of file compression into
mkbatch.
