[net.news.b] Why is this in "junk"?

john@genrad.UUCP (John Nelson) (11/01/84)

For some reason this article got put into "junk" at this site instead of
the correct newsgroup. We are running news 2.10.2, with the "fixed" rn
inews patch. The article seems to come from notes somewhere, but the
header looks fine to me! Has anyone seen this before, and is there a fix?

Note that Date-Received is > Date + 14 days, which is the default expiration
period. I believe the new version throws such "old" articles into junk.

Perhaps you should look at the news log file. Also the errlog file. I
suspect you will see a line which says

inews: Article too old, moved to junk

as the articles is dated 14 days (2*WEEK) before the ate it arrived.
Probably that is your default time limit...

This is one reason why one of the first things I did was patch inews to
move these things to a group called 'obsolete' instead of junk. I passed
the change to rick, it may be in the next release, but it does make it
easier for me to track down bad articles without tripping on the old
ones...
