When using "rn" to cancel a message, the Control article has an ASCII DEL character at the end. I suspect that it is inews that is putting it on there, as I have seen it before rn got popular. This is usually because some piece of code is trying to unget EOF. Most of these were fixed in news 2.10.2, but check out line 1031 of visual.c, in getnextart().
