I've been reading through the 2.10.3beta inews code in order to write a cookbook for setting up a compressed + batched newsfeed. I came across several chunks of "#ifdef MULTICAST" code in ifuncs.c, and attempted to quickly decipher what's going on. I couldn't get all the way down to the nitty-gritty. Multicast appears to be an alternate transmitting mechanism enabled by putting an M in the flags field of your sys file entries. Can anyone tell us in 25 words or less what this scheme offers over non-multicast vanilla sending methods? What kind of feeds would benefit most from multicast? I'll digest any responses (over the net or mail) and submit them to Rick Adams at seismo so it will get into the 2.10.3 documentation. Eventually I'll post it to the net, with the cookbook, so that we'll all know. Bob Desinger {ihnp4, decvax}!ucbvax!hpda!bd hpda!bd@BERKELEY
