I've been having a problem here with newgroup control messages; it is this: The newgroup control messages sent from elsewhere (cbosgd) are shunted to the control spool directory as I'd expect. And that's all that happens. I'm expecting at least a new entry in the active file but don't get it. Why NOT? When I create a newsgroup here (inews -C), an entry gets added to the active file and a message sent to other systems in the distribution that the newsgroup was created. The reason that the entry gets added when a group is added this ways is that the -C flag sets 'mode' (inews.c) to CREATENG. And now for the real eye opener...AT NO OTHER TIME DOES THIS HAPPEN! At least not in the source we have. I guess I expect that when rnews gets a newgroup control message from elsewhere, an entry gets added to the active file. Why doesn't this happen? This bug must have been discovered some time ago and fixed. Can someone out there let me know if you have the fixes so that I may request them? If don't get a response in a reasonable time, I'll fix it myself and post...I can't imagine the fix being more than 10 lines or so. -- -Dan A. Dickey ihnp4!rosevax!ciprico!dan
