[net.aviation] Friendly FBO's

rob (06/03/82)

I just completed a trip from Hanscom Field, Massachusetts (BED) to
Florida. I want to express my feelings that the FBO's in the
South are much friendlier than those in the North. It just
seems that they come out to meet you, offer services, give help,
and smile a lot more. Specifically, St. Simon Is. in GA was good
enough to let me use a car since the restaurant on the field was
closed. St. Pete Fla, BayAir serviced damaged my nose wheel cover
and told me about it! I might have missed it on my preflight.
But go to Monmouth County in NJ, and you can beg them to fill your
tank, plead for a place to eat, and generally feel not welcome.

As far as for around here, no one seems to care about local pilots
coming in to their airport anymore. Tew-Mac doesn't want you there
after dark, Minumteman's snack-bar used to be great, was closed
last time I was there, and BED, well Massport runs that, so you can
guess how rotten it is.

I'd be glad to share any local info with anyone coming this way, and
would like to hear about other FBO's. Perhaps since there are so
many bad ones, we just better mention the good ones. I go to Florida
at lease once a year in my Skyhawk, usually stopping at different
places, depending on fuel.
