[net.aviation] More regulation?

ark (08/08/82)

I believe the following two statements.

	1. Some people who should know better (such as FBO managers)
do things that are clearly not in the interest of safety (such
as inadequately maintaining their airplanes, etc.)

	2. Some of these unsafe actions are directly prohibited by
the FARs. They do these things anyway.

I do not see how these two items can validly lead to the conclusion
that the solution to the problem is additional regulation.

Personally, I think the solution is for those pilots who do care about
saftey to start voting with their feet. Spread the word about bad (or good!)
FBOs. Look over an airplane carefully when you rent it. Don't be ashamed
to refuse an airplane you think is poorly maintained even if the FBO puts
pressure on you. Remember, it's your life on the line.
