I believe the following two statements. 1. Some people who should know better (such as FBO managers) do things that are clearly not in the interest of safety (such as inadequately maintaining their airplanes, etc.) 2. Some of these unsafe actions are directly prohibited by the FARs. They do these things anyway. I do not see how these two items can validly lead to the conclusion that the solution to the problem is additional regulation. Personally, I think the solution is for those pilots who do care about saftey to start voting with their feet. Spread the word about bad (or good!) FBOs. Look over an airplane carefully when you rent it. Don't be ashamed to refuse an airplane you think is poorly maintained even if the FBO puts pressure on you. Remember, it's your life on the line.
