[net.aviation] Holding pattern instead of procedure turn

ark (12/02/82)

Following is a quote from the Jeppesen Airport and Information Directory:

Where a holding pattern is specified in lieu of a procedure turn, the
holding maneuver must be executed within the 1 minute time limitation
or published leg length. The maneuver is completed when the aircraft
is established on the inbound course after executing the appropriate
holding pattern entry. If cleared for the approach prior to returning
to the holding fix, and the aircraft is at the prescribed altitude,
additional circuits of the holding pattern are not necessary nor
expected by ATC. If the pilot elects to make additional circuits
to lose excessive altitude or to become better established on course,
it is his responsibility to so advise ATC when he receives his approach
clearance.
