#R:ihuxr:-14400:umn-cs:3300001:000:558 umn-cs!geof Oct 19 09:20:00 1982 What you are asking is illegal. A private pilot cannot fly anything or anybody for hire. He can allow passengers to share the expenses but he must bear an equal share. While it is unlikely that anyone would ever check on such things, if there were ever an inquiry, due to an accident of some sort, and it came out that the pilot was accepting some form of payment to fly the aircraft, most insurance companies would not pay off. The FAA would also take a dim view of such circumstances. Geof Stone umn-cs!geof geof.umn-cs@udel-relay

Consider yourselves lucky, folks. In Canada, a private pilot who OWNS an aircraft can split direct expenses (fuel, oil, parking fees) with his passengers on an equal basis; this is a recent change to the rules. A private pilot who is renting the aircraft is not allowed to even share expenses - a commercial licence is needed for that.
