[net.aviation] PIC, Safety Pilots

bart@ucbvax.UUCP (06/19/83)

I miss-typed: As I said, any dual time you take in an aircraft which you
are qualified to fly is considered PIC, but (as was pointed out), CFI's
log that time as "Flight instruction" time.

It is a gray area on the safety pilot issue, as to what qualifications are
needed. True, the best situation is that the safety pilot is fully
qualified in the aircraft. But asking 3 different aviation specialty
lawyers (slippery folks that those lawyers are), I received 3 different
answers.

It is an area the FAA has not clarified, because of the relative lack of
problems resulting from simulated instrument time flights.

Another question for the net: how many of pilots out there are suffering
from restrictions and pressures on their home airports, caused by the
neighboring communities? Not to be ignored, how many of you have communities
that are supportive of their airport?
