[net.aviation] Querry on headsets: using stereo or other headsets damaging radios?

werner@ut-ngp.UUCP (07/03/83)

Marks recent querry reminds me of a topic which came up in our flying
group 2 years back, which (in my mind) was not resolved:

Several of us had the idea to use stereo or other head-phones to cut down
on the noise and to let the passenger listen in, and protect his ears, listen
to the radio on the ADF, be able to communicate with the pilot easier by using
the same mike (or second), and transmitting in the blind on the pilot-to-pilot
frequency. Kind of very cheap, right?

Well, someone suggested the the resistance of the "real" (i.e. expensive)
gear, is different, and that the above practice would damage the radio
equipment?

Anyone care to voice an opinion?
