jeb@eisx.UUCP (07/08/83)

Results from the eighth day of competition:

Standard class, 518 kilometer triangle
Day 8 Beltz 14th
       Mozer 17th
Overall - a pilot from Denmark is in first place with 7220 points,
Beltz is 4th with 7100 and Mozer is fifth with 7057. Overall first
place has been changing hands regularly in this class, and the
remaining point gap is small enough to mean a close race right
up to the end.

15-meter class
Day 8 Striedieck 2nd
       Gimmey 3rd
Overall - Kees Musters of the Netherlands remains in first with
7687, Striedieck is second with 7307, Holighaus (West Germany)
is fourth, and Gimmey is 9th with 7009 points. Striedieck's
chances for first aren't hopeless, but the Dutch pilot will
have to make some mistakes.

Open class, 593 kilometers
Day 8 Moffat 2nd
        Butler 18th
Overall - Ingo Renner of Australia continues to perform almost
perfectly in the Nimbus 3 with a total of 7944 points out of
8000 possible. Moffat is 4th with 7215, Butler is sixth with
6864. Moffat needs a miracle to overcome the existing point
gap.

The contest ends next Monday. So far the weather in New Mexico
has been outstanding, with no days lost to rain.
