The other day my flite instructor decided to show me how to handle an inflite fire in the engine compartment of a small single. We chose a spot near a small uncontrolled field that had two parallel runways, one paved, one dirt. The airport was closed for repairs to the paved runway due to storm damage. The manuver required throttling back and entering a near vertical dive untill the airspeed reached redline. This was easy enough, and we leveled out about fifteen feet off the deck inbetween the two runways. There was a fellow on the runway spraying oil by hand with a canister applicator. He was glad to see an aircraft flying by, as there had not been much activity around there for a few weeks. So, he waved at us as we flew past. We waved back, however we noticed that in his zeal to wave at us he neglected to stop spraying and was applying a nice coat of heavy oil onto his right shoe. We flew on home, having a good laugh even after tying down.
