[net.aviation] 80 octane in New Jersey

jeb@eisx.UUCP (07/11/83)

I heard yesterday that once the current supply of 80-octane
avgas at Solberg Airport runs out, they won't be getting any
more, since their supplier has decided to stop producing it.
With Somerset Hills gone, it's getting harder and harder for
folks flying older airplanes to find 80-octane in central
Jersey.

Two years ago my wife and I took the back seats out of our cherokee 140
and put all of our camping gear in, then toured the U.S. for a month.
The only two places that we found with 80 octane west of the Mississippi
was College Park in Washington D.C., and New Orleans L.A. That can of
TCP additive was the only thing between fouled spark plugs at altitude
and the speeding ground.

I never realized that College Park, Maryland, is West of the
Mississippi! No wonder I've had occasional navigational problems
these last ten years!!!

Thanks dave,

I (obviously) ment east (lost again in vfr). However, the College
Park Airport I was refering to is in the Washington D.C. area.
In trying to get there I almost landed at the closed Aircoupe Factory.
They are very close to each other.

fumbling with my charts endlessly,
