My friend is exploring the idea of forming a airplane ownership club. It would involve at least two people and perhaps as many as three or four. I am considering the cost on my behalf to get involved. I would like to hear from those of you who have been in such organizations and would be willing to relate your experiences. We are looking at the market to determine which aircraft would satisfy our needs and reflect minimum cost. I would like information on selection of a particular model and what to look for.

From: Andrew F. Sibre <SANDY @ MIT-ML> I belong to a flying club in Northern Virginia, and find it quite pleasant. Several questions must be asked, however, before blowing a wad of money on a plane. 1 How many people will be flying it? 2 What are their ratings? 3 How will (1) and (2) affect insurance costs? 4 Will the local FBO object to the loss of plane rental income when you rent yours out? (He'll kick you off the field if he does). 5 What is the history of AD's on the type plane you are thinking of buying? 6 Is it well known, and therefore easy to get serviced (and if necessary SOLD) ? 7 Who will do the check-out of prospective pilots? 8 How much $ for tie-down or hangar space? 9 Easy to fly? Forgiving? IFR? (the last a MUST). 10 Do you want the plane to pay for itself? 11 How do you deal with a partner who suddenly wants to get his money out of the plane, in a hurry, while the only prospective investor is a guy who's already lost 2 planes to the Bureau of Customs? 12 Have you read "Trade-A-Plane" to determine average market prices? --- CHEERS!!! anm_f
