[net.aviation] Real men & IFR timers

Real men don't use any IFR timer. They count "one thousand one,
one thousand two, ..." Real men who want to stay legal use the sweep
second hand of the aircraft's clock.

Wimps whose brains are muddled from eating too much quiche had better not
try this, though. They'll end up mumbling "let's see, have I been inbound
for four minutes and thirty seven seconds, or was it five minutes and
thirty seven seconds..." and flying into cumulo-granite. The best solution
to their problem is an electronic watch with a stopwatch function. It's
easy to carry, easy to use, cheap (about $35), and usually comes with a
built-in calculator too, which is often more convenient than an E-6B for
figuring groundspeeds and whatnot. I use a Casio 951. Works great. And
it has a countdown timer that's perfect for baking quiche.
