We visited many outstanding landmarks, among them the Grand Canyon and the Carlsbad Caverns. We had taken our bicycles along so that we had ground transportation and could bike to the nearest campground if camping was not allowed at the airport. The nearest airport to the Carlsbad Caverns is(or was) at Whites City. I think that the airport is called "Carlsbad Caverns" airport. It was a HOT ride to the caverns which are about 10 miles west and over one thousand feet up from the desert floor airport, but worth it. I believe that there is a bus up to the caverns from the campgrounds in Whites City, but that may be just during the tourist season. The town, campgrounds and local motel are within easy walking distance from the airport. Dan Park {teklabs,hp-pcd}!orstcs!dan Oregon State University
