[net.aviation] Glider Races in New Jersey

Aero Club Albatross will be sponsoring the New Jersey State
Soaring Championship Meet at Sky Manor Airport on the two
weekends after Labor Day. The dates are Sept. 10, 11, 17, 18.
We expect at least 30 sailplanes to compete, with some real
state-of-the-art racers in the field. Tasks will be set for
two classes: Gold for high performance ships and experienced
pilots, and Silver for older and slower ships and novice
cross-country pilots.

This is an opportunity to see some real class soaring
equipment and more soaring activity in one area than at
any other time of the year in New Jersey. Other attractions
at Sky Manor: rides and instruction in airplanes and gliders,
sky diving, ultralights, antiques; food available in the
lunch room on the field.

WARNING TO NJ PILOTS: Be aware of the greatly increased
glider traffic expected around Sky Manor on those weekends,
especially when the contest field is launched, probably
around noon. At least three tow planes will be working at
maximum capacity to launch the entire field in as short a
time as possible. Gliders can be VERY hard to see in the
air; when I'm flying one, I always assume that the power
traffic in the area does NOT see me. Anyway, keep your
heads up in the area, please. And stop and see us at the
contest - we'll be glad to shoot the breeze and do some
serious hanger flying.
